Watching birds

Yesterday, there was a gorgeous, bright blue tit with its head inside our empty bird box which is directly visible from the kitchen inspecting it for potential as a nest. If I were a nature poet (with a bit of a comic touch), I would write:

"Just as the blue tit dreams of Spring
In January's chill air,
Inspecting holes and crevices
For its long awaited lair,
Just so the expectant mother
Starts to weigh up in good time,
Inspecting house particulars
Out shopping or online".

I would not recommend our bird box to any bird, as cats walk along the fence, They would sit uncomfortable but patiently waiting for the birds to fly in and out.

The British Royal Society for the Protection of Birds (RSPB) is carrying out a national survey next weekend in the UK of garden birds? One has to watch and count the birds in one's garden for one hour a day on 29 and 30 Jan and report back to them. One can also get a free bird song CD and free booklet on garden birds in "Daily Telegraph.

If you are interested in taking part, see link below.
