Saturday 9 January
Trains to London stopped running before lunch due to the snow. On the whole, background gas heating at 15 degrees was working well, to keep the ice away from the pipes while we use oil radiator to good effect. This costs the least, but in the longer run I think a Rayburn range using wood would give us constant heat. People are complaining across the UK that even with full heating on, it still feels cold but good insulation in this house means that once it is warm it holds the heat well.
A friend from Oxford days emailed me asking for our prayers for her and her family. Her mother died suddenly.
