Comment on the "First Folio" prison sentence

A British man was sentenced today to 8 years in prison, not for stealing the First Folio from Durham University, removing its old leather binding and tearing off the front page, but for handling it and finally handing it back, or trying to sell it to the Folger Library in Washington, USA.

I wrote this in response to this news:

Would Shakespeare think this Folio crime
Really merits eight long years of 'time'?
It was stripped naked to the text he wrote,
Rapid words on paper, not leather quote-on-quote.
Will was pleased to borrow, Greene called him "thief".
Durham has its treasure back : its leaf!
